My martial arts journey has always been focused on practical and realistic self-protection. I hold a Shodan in Shorinji Kempo and, over the years, I have trained and studied different approaches to real-world personal protection, including Senshido with Richard Dimitri, Combatives, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I also have previous experience working in security and doorwork.
I discovered Paul Vunak’s Progressive Fighting Systems in 1998 through my interest in Jeet Kune Do and functional, street-oriented training. What immediately attracted me was the direct, pressure-tested approach and the emphasis on simplicity, adaptability, and effectiveness under stress.
What I hope to bring to the Team Vunak community is my experience, an open mind, and a genuine desire to keep learning and improving while sharing practical knowledge about realistic self-protection.
One of my main goals is to teach this approach to people who may be at a physical disadvantage, particularly older adults and those who are not naturally strong or athletic. I believe realistic self-defense should give ordinary people practical tools, confidence, and a better chance of protecting themselves, regardless of age or physical ability.
